Whether retained to handle an appeal from start to finish, to pursue an extraordinary writ, or to provide strategic guidance during ongoing litigation, the department brings an appellate perspective to every stage of a case.

 Led by Certified Appellate Specialist* Rachel Garrard, the department represents businesses and individuals in civil appellate matters arising from a broad range of disputes. Its work includes appeals from final judgments and appealable orders, extraordinary writ proceedings, post-judgment strategy, and appellate motion practice. The department also partners with trial teams before and during trial to preserve appellate issues, develop legal strategy, strengthen dispositive motions, refine jury instructions and verdict forms, and help build the strongest possible record for review.

 The department has represented clients before the California Courts of Appeal, the California Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel, and in matters before the United States Supreme Court. Whether engaged as standalone appellate counsel or as part of a broader litigation team, the department is committed to delivering thoughtful legal analysis, persuasive advocacy, and practical solutions tailored to each client's objectives.
